Tawny Frogmouth is a scruffy looking thing

By Barcham 23 July 2013 6

Kim F spotted this handsome looking bird and sent us some shots.

This little beauty roosts during the day at the same spot near the bike path in Curtin.

Yep, it is a grove of Birch trees

Used to see those black ( with a bit of red , I think ) gallahs having a great time eating the cones from the old pencil type pines outside the Slovenian club.

Looks like this bloke has picked a decidious tree so he can watch unusual people on bikes who are watching an unusual bird in a tree.

They are lovely little birds – great camouflage too.

Didn’t know they could survive our winters. I still remember the first one I ever saw – in a rainforest in northern NSW, so I always thought they preferred warmer climes.

Lovely, I’ve yet to see one of those IRL.

Makes me think the Army should be issued similar camouflage colours for winter.

Really lovely photos! Interesting that it seems to be a non-native tree.
