This week one of Canberra’s biggest bands, Hoodlum Shouts (pictured), will be taking the stage once more with Cat Heaven at The Phoenix this Saturday, starting from 7:30 pm. They will also be joined by Shoeb Ahmad and Like Foxes. This will be the start of a tour through the country in support of their latest album, Heat Island, available through Poison City Records here.

This Thursday, Katchafire and EarthKry will be playing with one of my favourite discoveries (shoutout to Ronny Kareni), West Papuan freedom fighters Black Brothers, the show being on at 8 pm at The Basement. Also on Thursday, check out Happy Axe and Aphir for a killer set at Merloc Studios, located at Canberra Technology Park.

Celebrate The Day of the Dead at Ainslie Arts Centre this Saturday, as they host a huge lineup that includes The AmaSonics, Afro Moses Ojah, Los Chavos, Brass Knuckle Brass Band and much much more, starting from 2 pm. Meanwhile over at Transit Bar, Brisbane melodic hardcore punk Stepson will be in town, playing with After Touch, Elk Locker and Lefty from 8 pm.
