It has been said in recent times that if the Brumbies put as much effort into rugby as they do into real estate they’d win a lot more games.
The Canberra Times today brings word that the club’s grand plans to turn their training oval into apartments has hit opposition from pretty much everyone who matters:
A trio of senior ACT Government frontbenchers weighed into the planning row engulfing the historic Griffith Oval yesterday. saying the ACT Brumbies’ controversial plans for the area were a ”step too far”.
Attorney-General Simon Corbell said he was speaking as a local Member for the Molonglo electorate when he said the rugby club’s plans were inappropriate and did not respect the heritage value of the historic oval.
Mr Corbell, a former planning minister, said his stance had the backing of his front-bench colleagues and fellow Molonglo members, current Planning Minister Andrew Barr and Treasurer and Deputy Chief Minister Katy Gallagher.
It’s an unusual way to announce policy.
