The University of Canberra’s Orientation Week (O-Week) is coming up from 28 to 31 January, and more than 30 events are on the calendar to enjoy, including live music from popular local artists.

Kicking things off on 28 January are the usual social suspects – speed friending, trivia and other challenges join a free pavlova bar and (friendly) game of dodgeball, before finishing things off with a welcome barbecue dinner on the concourse lawns.

29 January is Market Day, the biggest event of the week. From 10 am to 2 pm, UC’s social, academic, cultural and sporting clubs will be out and about recruiting members, local businesses will offer freebies, and there’ll be live entertainment on the main stage throughout.

Homegrown heroes Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers will be back on their old stomping ground on the 31st, with what band members say is their best set yet.

The no-nonsense rock band’s first studio album, ”I Love You”, won them an ARIA Award in November 2024, so it’s bound to be a huge performance.

“Every Teen Jeanies show is so much fun but we always feel most excited for shows back in our beloved Canberra!” band members told Region.

“We have played a few shows in Canberra since releasing ”I Love You” and it is the best full-circle, awesome moment.

“Not only is Canberra one of our most supportive crowds but all of our family and oldest friends come to these shows, people that knew us as teenagers jamming in a garage after school, so having them at shows makes it really special. It’s always a good homecoming.”

TJJT were thrilled to share Australian stages with Pearl Jam last year, impressing the legendary band so much they secured a support spot on their upcoming Dark Matter world tour.

“Touring with Pearl Jam in Australia was genuinely the best experience we have had and the fact we get to do it all again in America in May is insane,” they said.

“We have been playing and touring for almost 10 years now and have never experienced such a welcoming band …

“It’s pretty addictive playing to a crowd full of people who are singing our lyrics back to us and screaming and dancing. To top it off, doing it alongside [our] best friends makes it the best thing in the world.”

O-Week might technically end on the 31st, but rapper-singer-songwriter Allday is keen to keep the party going just one more night.

He’ll bring together an amalgamation of indie, hip-hop and alternative sounds on 1 February, featuring his new single, Dancer, and tracks from his latest album, ”The Necklace”, alongside fan favourites.

“I love to go on stage and jump around. Rap is music that is built for live shows,” Allday says.

“My audience is always high-energy but also full of nice people who are going to look after each other. I love coming to Canberra – it’s going to be a ripper.”
