Unearthed Review is weeping bittersweet tears into the keyboard.
Moving on through the “drummed” artists we come to Katie Prior.
She has this to say:
Katie has been singing/songwriting for many years. She has played in various bands around Canberra and Sydney and has experimented with a variety of styles. Her most recent band formed with mark and anna, has an organic sound, strong song-writing, dreamy vocals, and beautiful violin accompaniment. These songs have a dark, sexy sound.
Be still my breaking heart.
This is the most beautiful stuff I’ve heard in a very long time. She lists her “sounds like” as Tori Amos, Cocteau Twins, and Moloko,
I’d say she has the ambience of the Cocteau Twins with the vocal strength of Tori Amos, which as praise goes is right up there from me.
Katie Prior sounds a lot like Dolores Riordan of the Cranberries for good measure.
There is often a certain samieness to women singer songwriters in front of a keyboard.
It’s a true credit to Ms Prior that she sounds original, completely new in fact.
These recordings are stunningly well done, although I wouldn’t mind hearing a more stripped down production.
Highly, highly recommended.
Five stars.
