Unearthed Review continues its inexorable progress through the Canberra musicians on the TripleJ Unearthed website.
Moving on through the “drummed” artists we come to Matilda Kate.
They have this to say about themselves:
Kate has been songwriting/singing for many years often performing solo, but more recently in a couple of canberra bands.
Last week we gave Kate Prior five stars.
Here we find her with another vehicle, Matilda Kate.
The production is even more obtrusive on these, which we found distracting. That voice is so good, why put distance between it and the audience?
The first song 2am is a rip snorter for anyone who’s had their heart broken, the other two are less memorable.
It’s still dreamy female vocals telling heart rending tales, but here in the Eagle’s Nest we prefer the solo stuff.
Three and a half stars
