Chief Minister Stanhope is celebrating the graduation of a whole eight (YES! EIGHT!) bus drivers from their arduous training course.

“I am pleased to announce the graduation of these new ACTION bus drivers,” Mr Stanhope said.

“We now have an additional seven males and one female joining our ACTION team as a result of the October 2010 recruitment drive.

“The new drivers began work in time for the start of the new school term and will be operating from both the Belconnen and Tuggeranong bus depots.”

During their training program, the new drivers were trained and tested in every aspect of bus operations including heavy vehicle defensive driving, customer service, route navigation, ticketing, assisting passengers with special needs, safety, security and emergency procedures.

The candidates had to possess strong customer service skills, have a full motor vehicle licence, be over 20 years of age and available to work within a seven-day week including night shifts.

His Chiefliness would like you to consider a life on the road.

Sadly the ACTION website says they’re not interested in new applicants?

Even when they are hiring, they won’t take you if you’re over 130kg due to their poor choice of seating for the drivers of their buses. I’ll call discrimination on that one.

Out of interest, are the seats for passengers rated any higher? Generally 130kg is the accepted limit for things like chairs, ladders, etc. Would you call discrimination against ACTEW because you cant get a job changing streetlights in a cherry picker, because the cherry picker only has a SWL of 150kg?

Maybe if youre over 130kg, you need to look at a paper run or something.

Can they speak?
Most of the current ones are incapable of anything more than a scowl and mumble.
Hate your job, not people with other jobs.

Comon, its a pretty thankless job. In an hour it takes me to get to work I reckon at least half the people who get on dont bother to say hello, please & thank you to the driver as they get on & off.

Common courtesy is not that common it seems. I try to be nice to the drivers, after all they do have your life in their hands & they are taking to your destination for bugger all.

These are male and female humans, right? Why not call them men and women, or indeed just “eight people.”

If you’re over 130kg then a job where you sit on your backside all day is probably not a wise career move!

There’s no way I’d put the grandchildren in this family on a Stanhopian bus.

Hmmm, I’d like his Chiefliness to consider a life on the road as well before he totally screws up this town – Bus Driving is about his level of competence

Well we all know they get paid well…….
