The Canberra Times has a report on the numbers of local crims who can’t get their weekend detention right and (presumably) end up doing normal prison time as a result.
- More than one-third of the Canberra criminals sentenced to weekend jail in the past three years have failed to comply with their sentences, mostly by failing to show up at the detention centre.
Figures from the Sentence Administration Board show that 108 of the 320 offenders sent to part-time jail since June 2006 have had their orders cancelled for not showing up, misbehaviour while in weekend custody, or showing up drunk or on drugs.
Some people just don’t know what to do with a second chance.
