We love our Vietnamese food.

Who can tell me the best one in town?

Green Bamboo Vietnamese Restaurant Address
Swinger Hill Shop
Shop 14, Ainsworth St
Mawson ACT 2607

I’ve found them. Former people from Vietnam Village Inn in Page just open GREEN BAMBOO Vietnamese Restaurant at Swinger Hill Shop, Ainsworth St, MAWSON. Ph 6286 4383 GREATER THAN BEFORE !!!

Thanks for all the suggestions. We ended up going to Mys. The food was delicious! Especially the duck rolls, prawn and zuchini fritters and fish with ginger and coriander. Service was great and very friendly. We’ve had takeaway from there before, but the first time we have eaten in. I highly recommend it!

Kinh Do in Macquarie!

Another vote for C?n Th? in Belconnen. It’s the best IMO.

P.S.: I’m Vietnamese and grew up in Cabramatta so I know a thing or two about Vietnamese restaurants.

I think “used to be” is the operative word. Don’t think it is near as good as it was under the original owners. Still quite ok though.

I get my pho from Ho Hau in Kingston, and Griffith Vietnamese if I’m in the mood for ginger beef.

Can Tho in Belconnen is awesome – they have both chinese and vietnamese, but vietnamese is really their speciality. I’ve been disappointed with Griffith Vietnamese the last few times I’ve been there.

Erindale Vietnamese is always good value and good quality – just ignore the decor.

+1 for My’s but avoid busy nights if you want to chat to your table mates in its new location. i hope they go better than the many other tenants in that location since it stopped being a pub!

Griffith Vietnamese is the best! Great food and great hospitality from the owner. Eat in though, the food doesn’t travel too well/tastes bad cold.

Tudo at O’Connor is overrated – their soup is very maggi noodles.

The Vietnamese at the Pearce Shops. I think it’s called Saigon or something similar.

I don’t know if a “first date” qualifies as being labelled “your intended” – that already sounds a bit keen (as would Vietnam for a first date if the truth be told)

I’ve been going to the Erindale Vietnamese for almost 20 years and have always found the food to be fresh and tasty and well priced. But it is not a place to take a “first date”, as the decor is somewhat down market [but clean and tidy].

I don’t know if it is true, but I have been told by several different sources that the Griffith Vietnamese and Erindale Vietnamese are owned by the same people. The menu and general layout seem very similar in both of those restaurants, although from memory the Griffith Vietnamese is slightly more expensive.

There’s always Vietnam ?

The best Vietnamese was a huge pub in Danag run by 2 Hungarian beer makers.

(*this post should be taken with a good dose of salty nouc mam and irony)

Rubicon on a first date? that’s a bit keen.

Haha, possibly, but it’s a better choice than Griffith Vietnamese, surely.

I’ll second Kinh Do in Macquarie – super tasty and old school budget prices.

I will also question Ozchicks taste buds. Can Tho is one the nastiest places I’ve ever eaten at. First time I went (table of 10) they got our meals mixed up (unsuprising given that a couple of the beef dishes were almost identical – same vegies, same coloured congealing sauce). The second time they managed to get the tasteless dishes to the correct patrons but three of the eight were cold and I mean stone cold, the rice was straight out of the fridge and they clearly hadn’t re heated last nights sauce anything like long enough as it was barely tepid. Strangely enough they will not get a third chance…..

Tudo Vietnamese Restoraunt in O’cconor.

It won’t win any fine dining awards but the Ph? is excellent and relatively cheap.

Pho Phu Quoc in Dickson is pretty good too – I’ve heard a rumour this is/was previously owned/run by the people running My’s (Yeah – I’m a bit hazy on this).

No, you have it the wrong way around. The owner/chef of My’s used to be a part owner/chef of Phu Quoc.

Rubicon on a first date? that’s a bit keen.

If you’re taking a first date to Griffith Vietnamese when the excellent, and arguably more suitable, Rubicon and Aubergine restaurants are so close by, well, you’re just going to look like a massive tight arse. I would suggest the ability to hear conversations at a typically tacky Asian restaurant (decor wise) will be the least of your problems, haha.

well the decor and environment lend it that authentic Vietnamese character.

And its certainly no place to take your intended if you need to still be talking – we take our children there. Up the ante and treat her to Rubicon instead – that will take your relationship to new heights.

Griffith is fairly good, but I cannot say it deserves the reputation it seems to have with native Canberrans.

The food is more than passable, but a bit expensive for what it is. If you want a drink you have to go to the supermarket a few shops down and the decor and environment inside is very poor (not a good place to take someone if you want to hear them during conversation – a relationship is never going to have a good start if you have to say “What?” every time your intended opens her mouth to do anything other than put food in it).

My’s in Weston. They recently moved into the Brierly Street shop formerly the home of the much-missed Fish Tales too.

Pho Phu Quoc in Dickson is pretty good too – I’ve heard a rumour this is/was previously owned/run by the people running My’s (Yeah – I’m a bit hazy on this).

Three posts in and no mention of Griffith Vietnamese. What is going on!

It’s a bit of a Canberra institution and is working its way around Canberra after previously being found at O’Connor Shops and Hobart Place in the city.

Most importantly the food is first class.

‘My’ at Coolaman Court, Weston, or ‘Fishers Vietnamese’ at the Fisher Shopping Centre.

My’s Restaurant in Weston Creek or Can Tho in Belconnen.

I’m a big fan of both Vietnam Village Inn in Page, and Kin Do in Macquarie shops (the local shops on Lachlan St, not Jamison Centre).

Used to be one at Page that was pretty good…..
