Writing workshops for teenagers?

Hi all,

I’m looking for something like a writing workshop for my 15 year old daughter who is currently in year 9. English is her second language (mine too by the way so I’m not much help) and she has a very “colloquial” writing style.

The school she goes to is quite happy with her writing but I think she could do better and would benefit from something like a writing workshop (preferably in the summer holidays) teaching her a more formal style.

Does anybody know who offers this in Canberra?

Apparently there is a Canberra writing school that operats out of Beclonnen Arts Centre and they specialise in that age group. Good luck!

It’s worth contacting Elita at Lavender Art Studios, http://www.lavenderartstudios.com.au/writing/index.htm. If they can’t meet your daughter’s needs then they may know someone who can.

you could try the act writers centre, based in gorman house. if they don’t have any writing workshops (and admittedly they are more likley to have creative workshops rather than technique sessions) they may be able to recommend a course or a tutor…

I had a quick look through their upcoming workshop lists and there’s nothing specifically student-oriented at the moment, but they seem to do a fair bit at the school level if their newsletter is anything to go by.

If you’re after something more academic they may be able to recommend someone.
