Yet another accident on King Edward Terrace...

The Intersection of King Edward Terrace and Bowen Drive has seen yet another serious accident this morning. Today we are told its a cyclist being struck and for all involved’s sake, I hope the cyclist and motorists are all right

My point is I don’t know if there is a more dangerous intersection in Canberra. How often does there have to be accidents (we see at least one tow away job a week) at this intersection before traffic lights or a roundabout are installed? Does someone need to be killed? Come on Nat Cap Authority, spend some money and save a life!

is this the very end of King Edward Tce? It is a dud intersection. Cars at a standstill, trying to give way to 6 lanes of traffic, the far lanes of which are doing about 100km around the bend.

It is terrible for pedestrians too – that was why they made it single lane – so the hundreds of round the lake joggers only had to weave thru one lane of traffic.

Actually, I just had a brilliant idea. Why don’t we make the intersection safe by putting a speed camera up?

I preferred it when Bowen Drive was 2 lanes all the around – it gave you heaps more run-up to get ahead of everyone else at the merge!

Its a rubbish intersection, and the improvements over the last two or three years have not made it any more or less safe. Just stick some lights in there and be done with it!

for an accident to happen someone has to break a road rule

People are idiots. The authorities need to protect us from ourselves by designing less accident-prone intersections.

Traffic lights would be the sensible option. They are needed too at the Bowen Dr, Brisbane Ave intersection as well; not because of any great risk of accidents but purely to make my escape from Barton easier in the afternoon.

so very true…

Regardless of how bad an intersection is, for an accident to happen someone has to break a road rule.

Now why doesnt this suprise me?

Its not just the intersections fault.. Ive seen some ridiculous driving through there!

I drove through there 15 minutes ago, and I’d be surprised if a cyclist was able to write off a new Mazda 3 AND a Holden Commodore. Looked to me like a standard fail to give way collision. People were standing around looking a bit shaken, both cars were looking pretty squashed. Hooray for insurance!
