The AFP announced earlier in the week, the interim AFP Chief Police Officer Andrew Hughes accepted the position of Police Advisor with the UN. This morning the ABC reports Shane Connolly has been appointed as the interim interrim CPO.

He is the third CPO in a year. Do you think Andrew Hughes got a feel for how bad things really were at the top of the AFP and decided to get out ASAP? How far are we from seeing a proper replacement CPO? or will we see an interim interim interim CPO?

Why is it taking so long to pick a new chief of Police? All these interim CPOs almost certainly mean it will be more difficult to implement long term crime fighting plans.

Third CPO? Dont you mean C3PO?

When Andrew Hughes joined it was known he might leave soon for this UN job.

I had hoped that as he didn’t have to be there to deal with the repercussion he might bring up a few difficult issues into the public arena. I guess he didn’t know for sure that he was leaving though, so he seems to have played it safe.
