ACTEW Water have the happy news that the Murrumbidgee to Googong pipeline has been completed.
This means in an emergency we can outbid the farmers downriver for water allocations and suck it out of the Murray Darling system:
After just over 18 months the Murrumbidgee to Googong pipeline project is now complete. The project is part of ACTEW Water’s long term water security program, which will help ensure our city has the water it needs for the future. It involved the installation of 12 kilometres of underground pipe from the Murrumbidgee River to Burra Creek in NSW, from where the water will flow into Googong Reservoir for storage.
Several important innovations were developed during the project including the first use of 1 metre diameter Ductile Iron Cement Lined Pipe in Australia, a choice which allowed the pipe to be laid at a shallow depth, reducing its construction impact. The installation of specially designed fish egg filtration screens will help protect our precious water ways by ensuring that the invasive European Carp and Oriental Weather Loach eggs are not transferred into the Googong Catchment.
Bad luck Charlotte. But it does make one wonder what Katy Gallagher was turning on back in August.
