Yes, today is Thursday, but not just any Thursday mind you – this particular Thursday is the one that’s exactly six weeks out from the opening of the 2010 National Folk Festival!
Speaking of the number six, if you want to avoid the queues and save by purchasing your tickets to the Festival early, you only have until 6 March!

* At the helm is a brand new Managing Director. Originally from Liverpool in England, Sebastian Flynn has moved from sunny Queensland to take up the role and brings with him a wealth of experience as a folk musician as well as a festival manager. Stay tuned to hear more from Sebastian on his plans for the future direction of one of Canberra’s most popular outdoor events.
* Our esteemed artistic director Dave O’Neill has engaged the support of well-known Canberra performance artist Adam Hadley to coordinate the highly anticipated new fringe festival ‘The Majestic’. It’s set to be an extravaganza of circus, vaudeville, slapstick, lunacy and general tomfoolery, all taking place under the Big Top in the centre of the arena.
* The National Folk Festival has a great new look, with unique designs provided by award-winning local artist/illustrator and long-time Festival supporter Franki Sparke. Keep an eye out for the colourful posters and brochures scattered around town.
* A record number of performer applications were received, over 900 in total and an increase of around 10% from the previous year. Plenty of old favourites and new friends … here’s a quick name drop:

* Camping spots at the National Folk Festival are coming closer and closer to selling out each year. Therefore, to avoid disappointment, lessen overcrowding and give everyone a fair chance, camping tickets will no longer be sold at the gate. If you wish to camp on site you MUST buy your tickets by 6 March. Also to help reduce overcrowding, an additional fee of $11 will be charged for campers who wish to bring a vehicle onto the grounds. It’s pretty affordable, but hopefully will help limit the number of cars crammed onto the site, therefore allowing more space for folks to camp and socialise!
