Here’s a blow by blow comparison of a DT Laksa vs a SK Laksa from my humble perspective:
A SK Laksa for comparison purposes is a straight 10/10/10
DT Taste (flavour) = 11
Size = 10
Ingredients = 9
Decor/Cutlery = 7
Waiting Staff = 8
Cost = 11
Details:
While a more flavoursome chicken laksa in curry terms, the DT Laksa lost ground by using pre-cut and very small portions of chicken. You can’t go past that traditional shredded style that SK does so well. Comparable in size and ingredients otherwise. It was disappointing not to get table service at DT, and I was surprised that I had to use a conventional spoon to drink the soup instead of a traditional style chinese spoon. The waitress either didn’t understand english very well, or she didn’t understand chinese very well, and got confused when I asked her for a ‘chicken laksa and a char-kway-teow without any MSG please’. Cost based comparison puts the DT Laksa in front, but as you’re obviously losing table service and proper cutlery to receive the discount, it’s 6 for one, a half dozen the other.
Overall rating, DT Laksa gets a 9 in my books. If I’m in Dickson and wanting a Laksa, I’d probably consider going back, although their char-kway-teow was pretty nice (the wife let me have a sample of hers), so I’d probably order that over a Laksa now that I know their menu.
