ACT Policing has arrested a 53-year-old man following a weapon incident in Gilmore yesterday (Monday, October 3).

Around 1.45am police responded to reports of a disturbance at a Gilmore house.

The man was armed with a Samurai sword and meat cleaver and was acting in a threatening manner. Police were concerned about the safety of a woman and two children, who were present inside the house.

Police negotiated with the alleged offender, before he was arrested at about 3.15am.

The man will face the ACT Magistrates Court charged with common assault, possession of an offensive weapon with intent and property damage.

The grapevine has it that he welded all of the screen doors shut. A successful negotiation with a happy ending.

Someone at ACT Policing deserves a pat on the back that this ended with words not bullets.

Seems to be the weapon of choice in the Fadden/Gilmore area.
