When the Canberra Day fireworks were on a few weeks ago a few friends and I were on the roof of the Canberra Centre just outside Dendy (having just finished watching the Watchmen and said friends having a smoke) and saw a huge flock of gulls flying about randomly and squawking, which we attributed to the fireworks that we could hear but not see startling them.

You see those birds heading back to the wetlands of an evening, if you’re having dinner at The Boathouse it’s quite a show, they are all heading the same way like fans to a rock concert.

Yep, it happens every single time there’s fireworks. The birds all roost for the night in the area around the Jerrabomberra Wetlands, from what I can judge, and then get disturbed and fly south whenever the fireworks start.
