The contributions of the late Justice Terry Connolly have been recognised today at the opening of a road in his name, Minister for the Environment and Sustainable Development, Simon Corbell, has announced.
“Justice Terry Connolly was a significant Canberran, a loving family man and a keen cyclist who was taken too soon,” Mr Corbell said.
Mr Corbell today joined Justice Connolly’s family to celebrate the contributions he made to Canberra including his time in public office as a Member of the Legislative Assembly and his role in the Supreme Court.
Justice Connolly was admitted as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia in 1982. He came to Canberra in 1983 to work as a legal adviser in the Commonwealth public service.
In 1990 he became a Member of the Legislative Assembly and served as the ACT Attorney-General, overseeing the transition of the courts from Commonwealth to ACT control.
In 1996 Justice Connolly was appointed Master of the ACT Supreme Court and appointed to the bench of the ACT Supreme Court in 2003.
“The road is close to the open spaces in Coombs, including the suburb’s bike paths, acknowledging the importance Terry placed on cycling and the outdoors,” Mr Corbell said.
“It is important that we continue to recognise the achievements of people such as Terry, even after their passing.
