Canberra camera repairer?

I’ve recently had the good fortune to inherit a couple of vintage cameras. A Yashica TL-Electro (circa ’73) and a Kodak Colorsnap 35 Model 2 (mid 60’s I think).

I’d love to know if there is anyone in the local area who’d be able to give them a once over and let me know if they are useable or in need of repair.

I realise there is a possibility that the specific batteries and/or film needed may be difficult to source these days (especially the film for the Kodak).

I’m guessing Ted’s in the city might be able to help although I’m wondering if any of the knowledgeable Riot photographers out there have any better suggestions?

Although the OP has resolved their issue, let me take this chance to recommend AGAINST the Camera House on City Walk.

Took a small digital to them after child sat on it while the lens was extended, leaving the two parts of the lens ‘bent’ – dislocated at the join if you get what I’m saying. For their standard inspection charge of $39ish, they informed me some 2 weeks later that they had disassembled it, and it was beyond repair. But my $39 was refundable off the price of any new camera. Took them at their word and purchased a new camera.

Some months later was cleaning cupboards out, and came across ‘bent’ camera. Wondered what to do with it. Figured pulling it apart would let the aforementioned child see how the innards work. But before doing this, I pressed the power button and it powered up fine – except for the dislocated lens that was still stuck out of course. With nothing to lose I’d thought I’d give the lens bits a hoik, and lo and behold, they just snapped into place, and the camera has worked perfectly ever since.

So – Camera House did not disassemble the camera, and basically let it sit on a shelf for two weeks before lying to me about what they did, in order to get another sale.

And in this age of blogging, that’s a real dumb thing to do. There’s my payback Camera House! I hope the sale was worth whatever business I may now cost you.

Nice work!

Well, Teds was very helpful. The Yashica is working like a dream! Kerry from photoaccess was also very helpful. Thanks to all.

I have used the guy who used to own Fletchers, he works from home in Fisher and the rates are great
email to steveblackie at gmail.com and ill give you the number

You could try contacting the following too.

Who also have their annual show on at the Watson Arts Centre at the moment.

There are camera collector geeks in Canberra who have a regular swap meet, hopefully someone here knows their details.

Yeah, I’d try Ted’s at Bailey’s Corner. They’ll most likely know of someone if they can’t do it themselves. Also try asking someone at Photo Access:
