Time to put the south side to the test again! This time I decided to try out Cafe Gaudi which you’ll find at the Coles and Woolworths end of Westfield Woden. It’s nestled right at the front so you can sit inside or outside, the morning I came here it was way too cold to be outside so I took a seat facing the big windows.
I was served as soon as I sit down, this is a cafe with table service and they took my coffee order straight away and left me to peruse the menu for a few minutes. As soon as I set my menu down as an indication I’d finished checking the waitress came straight over to take my order – all done within 5 minutes of me sitting down, which I loved.
I noticed the offer a $10 all day breakfast and $10 lunch specials, on the special breakfast menu I noticed they had a paleo option – one egg, roasted tomato and wilted spinach. To be honest the $10 specials weren’t like the traditional specials you expect, it’s more a half serving for a cheaper price. Being pretty hungry I decided to go with a normal menu item of eggs benedict with ham.
My coffee (flat white) turned up almost immediately after ordering, which was great because I was feeling so sluggish I knew I’d be ordering two coffees in the one sitting. It’s not the best coffee I’ve ever had but it certainly isn’t the worst.
My breakfast then turned up soon after and to look at I was slightly disappointed with the $17.50 price tag. It was fairly basic, no flair of anything different. Then my pet peeve, I cut into my first bit and the ham was cold, fresh out of the fridge cold. This as you can imagine turned my eggs from hot to lukewarm and to be honest spoiled the whole dish.
While I cannot fault the service from the waitress at all, the meal really let down the whole experience. I’m positive it wouldn’t take much effort to warm the ham enough that it added to the hot breakfast rather than serving it fresh out of the fridge. With a spoiled breakfast I decided not to order a second coffee and instead finished what I could and left.
