I can think of no better way than to spend a Sunday hopping from cellar door to cellar door in and around Canberra, tasting wine and chatting to our local winemakers. This week’s taste off topic is one for the wine connoisseurs among us, as well as everyone else who just enjoys a good glass or two.
The Canberra district wine region is big and varied and not constrained by the territory’s border. There are 140 vineyards and more than 33 wineries in the region, spanning from Bungendore, Wamboin and Lake George, right through Canberra and Hall, and out to Murrumbateman and Yass.
The region is well known for its cool climate wines, but with large variation in elevation, temperature and soil type across the area, variety is the name of the game in the Canberra district. Whether you like a nice red or you’re more into white, if you like a crisp dry wine or something a little sweeter – whatever your preference, the Canberra wine region has you covered.
