With the public sector’s constant restructures and ever-evolving policies, the management of change has become critical.
We now have entire departments related to change management, and managers from other departments are increasingly required to understand how to cope with, and promote positive reactions to, change in the workplace.
These, and other challenges, will be the focus of the Change Management for Public Sector forum to be held in Canberra at the start of next year.
The forum, which is run by Ark Group Australia, has become one of the leading events on the topic of change in the public sector since it began in 2008.
In previous years it has been held in Sydney and Melbourne, with the decision to host in Canberra this year stemming purely from popular demand.
“It’s a great event for those in change management,” says Steven Oesterreich of Ark Group Australia. “We have a one day interactive forum, followed by two workshops with specifically targeted modules.
It [day one] brings together leaders in the field of change management to present their ideas on disruptive, agile and transitional change. This year we will have the Commonwealth Games Group Queensland Police Service, Legal Aid, Aged and Community Services Australia and others. Each provides very valuable insights on inspiring change, overcoming resistance, lessons learned and much more.”
This year’s forum will also include the widely popular World Café Open Mike, which has previously only been part of the company’s Knowledge Management forum.
“The Open Mike is so popular, we decided to introduce it to the Change Management forum as well,” says Mr Oesterreich.
“It will be held towards the end of the first day, and basically allows everyone to have a say, ask questions, get feedback and brainstorm solutions. You don’t have to be a skilled public speaker either – we all break into groups with a leader to facilitate the discussion. It’s one way that we can ensure everyone who attends the forum walks away with practical advice they can implement within their own department.”
The forum is set to draw a large crowd, and is of particular interest to change managers in any department, business managers, people and culture managers, human resources, organisational development, internal communications and more.
To attend the forum, visit Ark Group Australia and register your interest.
Early bird registrations attract a discount, and close on the 5th of January.
