Wrinkly corvette fraudsters get suspended sentence.

In February last year we reported on the elderly Edna Alice Russell and Morgan Francis Fay charged with stealing from a veteran’s reunion fund and laundering the money through the poker machines of the Ainslie Football Club.

The Canberra Times now reports that the pair have been given a nine month suspended sentence. Did they demonstrate remorse to warrant this leniency? Like hell they did.

“denied any wrongdoing over the disappearance of the money, restating their innocence yesterday when being sentenced…

Mr Cahill said it did not reflect well on the three defendants that they had falsely sought to blame the association’s president, Dr Geoffrey Davis, who suffered from amnesia, for the disappearance of the funds. The money had been raised to pay for a subsequently cancelled association reunion.”

I’m so pleased the community will continue to benefit from the presence of these charming seniors.

They payed for a crime they didnt commit, may they finally rest in peace.

“They were not ordered to repay the stolen money.”
WTF?! was the case proven or not?

What a load of crap.

The case looked good from the moment they were charged.

Police in this town are constantly frustrated by the difficulty of being able to secure convictions against people they know have broken the law.

And you know what? That’s a good thing.

But when the charged have been brought and the trial has been done and they’ve been found guilty beyond reasonable doubt in an ACT court, then they’re past my sympathy.

I personally know 5 people who’ve been found guilty in ACT courts.

and ALL of them did it.

when handling other people’s money you should always be extremely carefull.

if they were innocent of stealing it they were so incredibly loose with other’s money as to be beyond my sympathy.

if they’d done the right thing with the money themselves they would have had no problem proving their innocence.

Something to stir the pot and think upon. Imagine going out of your way to help a wonderful group of people who you respect and admire for what they have done for you and your country, you yourself all your life being a law abiding citizen trying to help those in need. Then to have accusations thrown at you that you stole all that money from those poor people when you know that you didn’t. The evidence submitted against you being circumstantial, yet you are found guilty. You cant yet find a way to prove your innocence. In the mean time your whole world including your families and friends is turned upside down. While the real criminal/s get away. I hope you never find yourself accused of doing something you didn’t do, and for those that have, I am truly sorry for what you are going through.

Maybe the ACT could save some money by making all these idiots who end up in Court repay their debt to society by working on the construction of the new jail.

It’d have to very well supervised, of course! 😉

Maybe once we do have our new jail, the judiciary will be more keen to send people there cos they’ll still be able to see their families and it’s going to be world-class in terms of humanity. Or so They say.

The ACT Pensioners Club as mentioned in the original story – is that the one on the corner of Barry and Marcus Clarke Street??

Almost makes ripping off veterans seem acceptable? These scumbags should be locked away; and not allowed to get off scot-free like this, especially while they’ve shown no remorse at all.

Good work, Cahill!

I’d like to run into these clowns at the Club one afternoon.

un believable.

i reckon i could batter someone to death in broad daylight on the steps of the assembly with half the afp as witnesses, and still spend zero time in the pokey.
