There is jewellery and then there is JEWELLERY as I discovered visiting Canberra’s very own luxury, bespoke jewellery concierge, ‘Plumery’.

Having opened its doors earlier this year, the brand has some exquisite ready to wear statement pieces. They can tell you the inspiration behind every dazzling item available for sale, recounting everything from where the gem was sourced to how it was set and crafted.

Their specialty is providing bespoke, individualised advice for the creation of custom designed jewellery. Plumery’s jewellery concierge service uses their knowledge and contacts in the industry to educate and assist people in discovering jewellery that they desire and value. The design process they have implemented is fascinating, with the initial consult consisting of education and learning about the different types of gems and styles available.

“Plumery offers exquisite jewellery that is designed to be worn every day – whether it’s an engagement, birthday, milestone, time of life, a special occasion or something to make a difficult time or transition seem worth it, Plumery can help source gems, finished pieces or guide a client through the jewellery making process from design to finished beautiful hand-crafted pieces,” said Plumery creator and owner, Danielle Klar. A qualified Gemmologist, Danielle is an expert at sourcing superior gems to suit various budgets.

Born in Central West NSW, Danielle grew up with strong rural ties. She was introduced to geology and gemmology as a child – when family trips become learning experiences looking at geological maps and finding ridges and landmarks; and discovering what this meant especially in terms of what kinds of rocks and gems could be found within.

Her diverse working career – including service as a doctor in the RAAF; coordinating health services for the ADF, policy work for Defence Force Recruiting; and as a Senior Executive for the Australian National Preventive Health Agency and in the Department of Agriculture – kept her busy from focusing on her passion for gems.

After a significant health scare and lengthy recovery period in 2014, Danielle realised that she had never lost her love of gems from her childhood. So during this downtime, she returned to studying jewellery sketching and design, the history of jewellery, and achieved her Diploma of Gemmology. From there, she went on to source and design custom pieces at the request of family and friends. With orders coming in thick and fast, she launched Plumery.

“The Plumery philosophy is to design pieces of jewellery that fit with clients’ lifestyle. They are beautiful and adaptable, can work in different ways, day and night, for work and play and most importantly, not hidden away waiting for that special occasion,” Danielle continued.

The very first Plumery storefront is a luxurious studio open by appointment only, located in the Equinox Business Park in Deakin where the art of creating a piece begins with an appointment to discuss requirements and design a piece or a suite of jewellery that you desire.

“Bespoke jewellery creation is an artisanal craft, and depending on the style of the design I will either make the piece myself or call upon a selection of highly skilled craftspeople. It is the perfect combination of design, gold, diamonds and precious gems, together with the skill-sets of jewellers, diamond setting, polishing and engraving, that results in custom-made exquisite jewellery,” Danielle continued.

Currently open by appointment only, visit the Plumery website for details.
