Canberrans were drawn to the light last weekend when thousands poured into the Parliamentary Triangle in Parkes for the annual Enlighten Festival.
The national institutions, from Old and New Parliament House to the National Gallery of Australia, were lit up with colourful projections depicting their roles, collections and events, while the area buzzed with performance art, live music and the popular Night Noodle Markets.
Some, such as the National Library of Australia in its 50th year, stayed open to display their latest exhibitions, or like the NGA become a mecca for families with craft play events and the Neon Circus performances.
The Festival opened on Friday night but the people really came out on Saturday, when the crowds were thick before sunset as long queues snaked their way towards the Noodle Markets.
But the magic came at nightfall as the national institution walls became canvases for the illumination artists, and installations such as the colourful cocoons of Metamorphosis and the fluorescent Jellyfish Bloom enthralled festival goers, who took to becoming their own art works with fluoro balloons and accessories.
The Festival continues until Sunday 18 March.
