Save the dinosaurs?

The Questacon exhibits change fairly regularly, and some are great, some less so. The gallery that has replaced the original ‘Forces’ gallery at Questacon is pretty crap compared to what it was 15 years ago. Too much plastic and marketing and nowhere near enough substance.

These are the same Dinosaurs that were there for the opening in 1988. so they are well over 20 years old now.
They use very old technology and parts are not readily available for them. It gets more and more expensive to fix them, every time things go wrong.

Things need to be changed around in places like this often.

The most exciting thing about the Dinosaur museum is the shop, they have some great staff and stuff on sale. The displays are layered in about an inch of dust, with boot prints all the way through signalling the path someone has taken through the display.

My kids love the Dinos at Questacon, but when the rubber has holes and paint is wearing off, it starts to look a bit 80’s.

Are these the same dinosaurs that were exhibited in the early 1990s, and then went ‘on tour’?

I wonder what the National Dinousaur Museum (in Nicholls) thinks about all of this?

Have you been there? It’s pretty ordinary, not to mention on the wrong side of the lake.

I can’t believe someone has the time and the energy to start up petitions about Questacon changing an exhibition!! I would have thought Water would be a good exhibition anyway for educational purposes. I mean, you can live without dinosaurs, you can’t live without water….

My grandson really liked the “saws” at Questacon. Three weeks later he is still talking about them (must have made a big impression for a 2.5 year old). Reports back from him say that the National Dinousaur Museum was a bit lame (not actual words he used).

I wonder what the National Dinousaur Museum (in Nicholls) thinks about all of this? Can’t kids go there to see dinosaurs? Isn’t that what its for?
