Bloody great power outage in the inner north

Well I had no power for most of the morning as ACTEW’s dicky recorded message missed deadlines and set itself new ones.

Is it just me or are we get major, extended outages more often?

In this case the traffic lights on Northbourne were out of commission and that’s not much fun for the motorists let me tell you.

Oh boy.

Water. Gas. Electricity.

I’m guessing we’ll run out of … air next?

well its a good thing that your redundancy plan wasn’t a building next door!!! hehe… which bizzarely enough I have heard rumours of some entities having..

nah, but i know it dropped out one of our core data centres. great fun when all of a sudden you lose 400 servers and countless switches etc, and get an sms mesasge for each and every one of them.
god bless redundancy.

heheeh… does anyone know what ACTUALLY caused the outage?

It was a really good outage! The lights at Northbourne/Wakefield became the law of the jungle, until the cops turned up with their white gloves. It needed two of them to control the rampant traffic.
Building generators were humming away – nice to know they work. The MacArthur House cafe had to make lots of rolls and sandwiches as they couldn’t do the usual hot food, and were operating in almost-darkness.

Broken Hill is the standard we’re working to now?

That’ll come in handy for the water side of the business then.

power is back now

IIRC, there was a post about this last year.

Those who thought the service in the ACT wasn’t up to scratch were derided by others who pointed to distant relatives 500km west of Broken Hill who suffered from worse services.
