Coffee addicts have one more reason to get out of bed this week with Kickstart Expresso Coffee opening a drive-thru coffee shop in the centre of Belconnen this morning (12 August). The Davis family is hoping to replicate the success of their Fyshwick drive-thru coffee shop, which has been serving caffeine on the go since 2014.

When Liat and Archie Davis’s four boys were younger, they found it really challenging to get a decent coffee without a whole lot of hassle. A trip to a regular cafe involved wrangling the whole family in and out of car seats, navigating car parks, waiting in line and some inevitable crying over spilt milk.

“As you can imagine, trying to grab a coffee with four young boys running around wasn’t easy,” Archie Davis said.

“That’s when Mum came up with the idea for a drive-through coffee shop. A place where you can get good old-fashioned food and service and quality coffee, all from the convenience of your car.

“The kids can stay strapped in, you don’t have to brave the elements, and you can catch up on phone calls if you need. It’s the perfect place to Kickstart your day.”

While the family initially dreamt up the drive-thru as a way to make life more convenient for busy parents, it’s proven to be a hit with tradies, travellers, or people unwilling to leave the warmth of their car in winter (or the air-conditioning in summer!)

Kickstart Expresso – because your espresso comes express – was once part of a short-lived experiment that delivered coffee by drone. The family also own Laneway Espresso in Dickson, and there are plans underway to open another drive-thru coffee shop in Wagga Wagga soon – a town that is already a big fan of drive-thru coffee culture with several drive-thru businesses already operating.

While the term ‘drive-thru’ might usually conjure up something akin to a fast food chain serving cheap and greasy meals, and at least it has caffeine in its’ coffee, Kickstart prides itself on the quality of its menu and ingredients.

Kickstart Expresso Coffee Belconnen will feature the same menu as its Fyshwick location, with house preserves, local ingredients and Toby Estate Coffee. The menu features a range of simple, tasty foods that are easy to eat with one hand: toasties, bacon and egg rolls and ham & cheese croissants, as well as banana breads and other snacks.

“Whether it’s grabbing an early morning breakfast on the way to the job site, a quick coffee before you make the drive to work, or a snack for all the kids as you head to weekend sport, Kickstart Expresso is the place to go, and the best part is, you don’t have to get out of the car.”

The Kickstart Expresso Belconnen drive-thru is located in the Benjamin Offices car park in Belconnen, entry via Chan Street. It’s open from 6 am to 2 pm Monday to Friday and from 7 am to 12 pm on Saturdays.
