The Capital Region Farmers Market (CRFM) is the largest regional market in the Southern Tablelands. Held every Saturday at Exhibition Park in Mitchell, regulars are lured week after week by the smell of freshly ground coffee, the region’s freshest produce, and the most flavoursome fare from over 90 stallholders.
Relationships are built between customers and local producers with the sprawling market buzzing as shoppers browse the huge selection of fruits, vegetables, plants, flowers, seafood, cakes, condiments, meats and cheeses.
The seasonal characteristics and diversity of the region will be on full display for the last two markets of the year as locals prepare for Christmas.
The traditional Saturday market is on as always on Saturday, 19 December from 7:00 am to 11:30 am along with a special extra Christmas Market on the morning of Christmas Eve between 7:00 am and 11:00 am.
The Christmas Market will be smaller than the usual Saturday market but will still have a great range of fresh produce from stallholders. It will provide the perfect opportunity to pick up some last-minute stocking stuffers, or the final cherry for the top of the Christmas pav.
To ensure you don’t miss out on the plumpest of prawns, pre-order from stallholders Narooma Seafoods or Warren’s Fresh Seafood. To secure the juiciest of hams contact Wagga Wagga Free Range Pork, Formichi Smallgoods, Boxgum Grazing and Murray River Smokehouse.
It is not only farm-fresh produce that the market is known for. Region Media spoke to CRFM Market Manager Sarah Power about the variety of amazing food producers who sell a plethora of baked treats and ready-to-eat meals for the perfect breakfast to sustain your shopping efforts.
Arriving at the markets early each week for setup, Sarah gets to enjoy her first and second breakfast on-site, and makes a habit of ordering something different each week.
“You just can’t beat the freshness of food prepared right in front of you and the passion that our food stallholders provide,” Sarah said.
