Simon Corbell has proudly announced the opening of the Childers Street Art Precinct (yes, another precinct, why can’t we be cool and have quarters?).
The practical upshot will mean driving into Civic West can now be done somewhat safely.
It also promises “synaesthesia” as a result of light sculpture and, wait for it, coloured awnings. My dictionary describes synaesthesia thusly:
“noun Physiology & Psychology
the production of a sense impression relating to one sense or part of the body by stimulation of another sense or part of the body.• the poetic description of a sense impression in terms of another sense, as in “a loud perfume†or “an icy voice.â€
Simon, or at least the legendary Monica Boogs, thinks it’s “a phenomenon where the human senses overlap. The work uses a blending of sight and hearing, with the musical score of Percy Grainger’s ‘The Walking Song’, transcribed in the coloured glass canopies.
So a wholly visual experience is going to overlap senses is i? Or are those lucky few who can sight read music going to start getting into the groove?
