The ABC has a piece on Calvary Hospital’s launch of smartcards holding health records for their patients.
The cards will contain vital clinical information and patients will decide who can have access to the material.
The $4.8 million scheme is being developed by Calvary Health Care – one of of a number of organisations to lead the introduction of the Federal Governments Personally Controlled Electronic Health Records program.
Calvary Health Care chief executive Ray Dennis says the system will initially be used by palliative and aged care patients.
“It will be milestone information so it wouldn’t be the complete medical record it would be milestone information – medications, certain test results, other key pieces of information that another health care provider may need in the continuing health care of an individual,” he said.
Now to not lose the card…
