Two Canberra security companies have joined forces to stop thieves in their tracks.

Businesses, industrial units and residential complexes saw a leap in crime during the COVID-19 lockdowns with many business owners realising their security was inadequate.

Mondiaux Security has teamed up with Blitz Security Installations to create a dynamic, multi-layered security service that combines cutting-edge surveillance technology with a 24-hour active response team.

The collaboration means Canberra businesses now have access to a one-stop security service that is more affordable than hiring a full-time on-site security guard and more responsive than traditional fixed video cameras.

In basic terms, Blitz is the ‘brains,’ while Mondiaux is the ‘brawn’ of the new operation.

Mondiaux manager Bruce Liu said the partnership came about after a rise in crime sprees across Canberra during the lockdown, which included burglaries as well as malicious damage to buildings and vehicles.

“People were desperate, lost jobs and many premises, such as restaurants and building sites, were left unattended, making them an easy target,” he added.

Bruce said the combination of a custom, real-time monitoring system installed by Blitz and fast response time by Mondiaux guards, means intruders can often be caught in the act and restrained until police arrive.

“Lockdowns are over, but our service is still proving very successful, particularly on building and construction sites, apartment buildings, car parks and restaurants that are open late at night,” he said.

“We’re seeing much better results than the traditional passive security measures.”

The use of closed-circuit television and motion detectors means the security team can see what exactly is happening on-site in real-time and act accordingly.

“We can send out our guards and call the police as soon as we spot an intruder on the cameras,” Bruce said.

“Live audio means we can speak directly to our clients, alerting them that someone is on their premises and to find somewhere safe to wait until our guards or police arrive.

“We can also speak to intruders from our headquarters through the camera audio, telling them they are being monitored and to leave – stopping them in their tracks and often they retreat without any stolen goods.”

The service aims to prevent theft, trespassing and malicious damage by deterring intruders. Still, the swift deployment of guards means thieves can also be caught and detained or followed by guards wearing body cameras.

Bruce said the theft of materials and tools from building sites remains a huge problem in Canberra, as is the malicious damage of vehicles in residential parking areas.

Business owners closing up their shops late at night, such as restaurants, are often the victims of robberies and he said the new monitoring system can spot would-be thieves scouting out the premises before they enter.

The one-stop security solution is designed to be the “middle-ground between the expensive active patrols and legacy security monitoring services” with monthly billing for the monitoring on a per-camera basis. A response fee is only billed if a patrol car is dispatched.

Kris Hogh from Blitz said the partnership with Mondiaux has been a “very valuable integration of two security companies”.

“We both believe in good, symbiotic partnerships to sustain business longevity and help more people,” he said.

“Together, we’re moving closer to our goal of eradicating crime – stopping it as it happens, not after the event, with our CCTV monitoring solution.

“Using cloud-accessible CCTV as an active platform to increase the visibility of buildings using a single guard station and instantly react with a security patrol as the criminals begin their activities, we’ve removed any further break-ins for all the buildings we protect.”

Mondiaux has partnerships with both Federal and State Government bodies and is the primary and secondary service provider for ACT government departments and ACT private sector organisations.

Established in 2009, Mondiaux Security experts have experience coping with all kinds of emergency and security issues and can fully cater to the requirements of different businesses and industries.

After reading the Court and Crime section of the Riotact, why bother with stopping habitual offenders. The Courts will have them on behaviour bonds and out in the streets again before you know it.

Yeah but we’re really trying to stop them before that stage. I agree with your statement but it’s a big problem and we’re trying to do our part in reduction.

I do not disagreed with you Kris and it is not a criticism of your arrangement. Surveillance and detaining offenders can only do so much. Unfortunately we have a Court system that has become a revolving door and offenders are becoming more bold and unafraid of consequences. Nonetheless go for it.

“…….call the police as soon as we spot an intruder on the cameras”

Good luck with that..

Calling the ? is essential to legally log the incident with them but we actually stop them from taking people’s property in the first place and in all interactions they leave the premises with nothing.

That sounds exactly what the outcome is i.e. it “legally logs the incident” which is what you have to do when you are robbed and have to get a PROMIS number to make an insurance claim.

yep but in all accounts so far there is no insurance claim as the thieves have left empty handed. So yes it’s red tape as such but that’s it, a corporate record of the event. What we want is the criminals to realise that these buildings aren’t easy targets and if they persist they will get caught.

I accept your point and it could lead to diverting part of the police budget to you because the police have failed to be pro-active in preventing the increasing crime wave in Canberra.

The police are doing their best and we all have rules and regulations to play by but they’re investigating the crimes in the background and we’re working to help protect our buildings, prevent it and report it in the foreground but at the end of the day it’s the police who do all the heavy lifting. We’re mearly a presence.

I feared you would say something like that.
