A great week for the pubs...

I think something to do with some Canberra clubs having the cheapest drinks in the country.

Also if ’some’ of the civic cops who are on the beat at night actually did their job Civic might be a diffrent place at night. Oh some of the times I wish I had ACA behind the corner.

As for the southside nightspots.. Been there done that and they are just as worse as hanging out at the Civic interchange at 4am on a friday morning

As for the crowd we are attracting and it being more or less volatile, it is really very hard to say. Anyone can tell you that Canberra in general has become more volatile, just look at civic’s track record in the last two years. However this is the exception not the rule at The Venue. Because of the wide variety of entertainment we are offering it is becoming popular with all ages. Pool comps tuesday thursdays, Museos jam session tuesday nights(free entry). Independant band night thursday(free entry) Friday after work drinks. Jazz in the cocktail bar before ten pm on saturday(free entry), Sunday Venue Blues Session from 7pm Sunday(free entry again). We are offering something for everyone, and building a live music scene in the heart of the south.

It is just a shame that the occasionally trouble makers steal the limelight.

realityskin – not sure who you are but it seems you know me. You seem to be missing the point, I really don’t care how big an asshole anyone is being to anyone else. Saddam himself could be out there sipping a Martini insulting someone’s mother, it doesn’t make a difference violence of any kind is not acceptable. We are trying to provide an environment where everyone can enjoy themselves, where people feel safe.

I would like to put this message out there. If you want to knuck on with your mates and prove how tough you are, or harass women, or generally behave like a dickhead, there are plenty of other places to go. I wouldn’t come to your work and act like that, so show some respect and don’t do it at mine.

There are so many cool people down south, and in Canberra, who work hard and who deserve to have somewhere they can go to unwind and party without having to deal with bullshit.

I am getting a bit carried away here, but it just really gets me going when I hear someone say “He deserved it.” No one deserves to have their nose broken when they are out having a good time. I don’t think some people think ( or maybe i think too much) but that guy will never be able to think back to the memory ofhow great a night it was when The Hoodoo Gurus played in Erindale, thats been taken from him and he can’t get it back. Instead it will always be the night that some wanker broke his nose. He may have been an asshole I don’t know but surely not even an asshole deserves that.

Eh maybe I am a bit optimistic about humanity, who knows? But let me finish by saying The Venue has always had a hard line on antisocial behavior and we will continue to do so. So if you are heading to The Venue and you plan to be a dickhead (this goes for trouble making girls too) don’t come, really just don’t come to my club, I don’t want your patronage. If you want to come down, leave the bullshit at the door,be cool, have a good time, meet some new people and dance the night away then you are more then welcome, hell I’ll even dance with you!

and the ‘fight’, was a one puncher, with the guy being hit most deserving as him and his mate were being assholes.

the club the club the club.

I understand that the crowd has changed but it I do not believe it is any less volatile.
Jackpot used to attract older people in 2s and 3s.
The Venue appears to attract larger groups of young people.

Having said that, if you feel intimidated as a do-right patron of the club then you are most likely correct that there is a culture problem within security at the club and hopefully the review will fix that. The number of guards should not be an issue at all if they present themselves in a way that reflects on the ideals of the club.

hk0reduck – its a much different crowd now, its not the rough, bar-brawling place it used to be, and from what I’ve seen, doesn’t require such excessive security. Maybe think about plain-clothes security instead fellas? then you can have 1-2 on the door and a few floating around and it won’t put people off so much.. just my opinion, good luck…

Probably too busy supporting organised crime through the trade and use of illicit substances – not to mention there is a water shortage at the moment – and all the chem heads seem to do is drink it all.

I am doing my part for water conservation by drinking only beer.

I have submitted a paper to our board at work to have the water cooler replaced with a mystery box and keg.

Interesting that alcohol and tobacco are still the only legal drugs.

I doubt you’d get that sort of behaviour with people taking ecstacy.

Time for a serious policy rethink?

After seeing some of the things that happened at Jackpot you’d have to agree that 5 guards is probably the right amount for certain nights.

I wonder what will happen to the guard with the venue symbol shaved into the sides of his head if you replace them all.
