Roof repointing in Canberra?

Be aware, be very aware.

After a year of deliberation, assessing recommendations and 4 quotes, we finally chose a roof tiling company to redo our ridge tiles. We thought that we had done sufficient due diligence! Alas, we were caught out – big time!

Although our quote clearly defined the need to replace all the bedding on our ridge capping, how did we feel when 25% of the existing (damaged) bedding was covered up with flexi-point? The repairer stated that it was too hard as there was silicone on some of the ridge capping. (1 cartridge over 25 metres!)

Luckily I visited home at midday and identified the issue. After some firm discussions, the roof repairer redid the doggy work to the quoted specification.

Then at about 2pm, the workers packed up and left. No communication with us – they just left, although the job was only 50% complete. Never to be heard of since!

Based on my experience I advise all home owners to be extremely attentive to the quoted job specifications if using National Capital Roofing.

Ultimately we engaged a reputable company to finish to the job to our expected levels.

Digging up an old thread on this, because I’m in the market for rebedding and repointing our tile roof. Not interested in painting it at all, and ReACT roofing need not apply – even without the horror stories, their misleading advertising shows how dodgy they are!

Anyone have any current recommendations for work like this?

Be really careful about any company wanting to PAINT (as opposed to repoint) your roof. Many sharks – lots of dollars – not much long term benefit.

The best tiler / roof pointer that I know of is Adrian Booth. Mainly works southside – very reliable and honest.
