The ANU has announced that they’ve reached an agreement with the Oxford University Press to let our local uni be the Oxford English Dicstionary’s final arbiter of our vernacular.
The agreement will see OUP continue to provide funding to the Australian National Dictionary Centre in the ANU College of Arts of Social Sciences, which conducts research into Australian English and provides OUP with editorial expertise for their Australian dictionaries.
“2016 will mark the 28th year of the funding agreement between ANU and OUP. This agreement enables the Centre to continue its role in charting the historical development of Australian English,” outgoing Centre director Dr Bruce Moore said.
The Macquarie Dictionary might beg to differ.
