buttplug lit

It is known to the public as many things, the lemon juicer, the tear of the taxpayer, droplet, and to the majority of deviants haunting Woden “the butt plug”.

But it sure is pretty at night with the lights on.

Martyo sent these pictures in. If you’ve got images of Canberra you want to share with the world send them in to images@the-riotact.com .

What is all this public art costing us? I found out that the owl outside the Belconnen Markets cost $400k, dont we have better things to spend public money on?

I vote for some more cubes that light up when you shout at them. I used to enjoy that Cube. That is useful and worthwhile Art.

And those rusty pears that used to be at the ANU (and then I think the Gallery nicked them), they weren’t bad, and were also very useful. “To get to the ANU union, head to ANU, when you get to the Pears, keep going about 100m and turn right…” (of if you were directing people to the Law Courts, if they got to the pears they’d gone a bit too far).

They were a good landmark.

the pears are now outside the entrance to the national gallery of australia – a bit of a waddle from the uni bar, i’m afraid…

Yes, the cube was the best.

As soon as they took the cube away, Civic filled up with angry drunks punching each other because they no longer had the cube to yell at.

i think it looks kind of cool. But is it drunk-proof?

The thing is massive – I think it’s pretty safe. Unless some knob plows into it with a 4WD…

i drove past this the other day and it is the ugliest ‘art’ i have seen in canberra yet

Flemington Road, Northbound, on the Franklin side of the road just past Wells Station Drive.

Creepy.

Thanks ThisIsAName for getting a photo of the one I’m talking about.

Just as the government spends money on bogan inanities, they should also spend money on art. There are more denominators than the lowest common.

+1 for that. The argument that the money would be better spent on hospitals/schools/roads etc. is moot when you start to appreciate the much bigger amounts of govt money pissed up against various walls in the name of questionable projects/political priorities.

What was that about the gubmint proposing to spend money on yet another sportbusiness venue?

I call it the “Pear of Anguish”.

It’d certainly be the Buttplug of Anguish…

It’s pretty, but who is there at night to appreciate it with the lights on?

I don’t know much about art, but I know what I hate. And I don’t hate this.

It’s got to be better than the stupid windmill thing on Yarra Glen. and the bent girders.

It’s called ‘Houses of Gungahlin’.

No it’s not. It’s the Flemington troll and it’s there to keep out the inner north riff raff. Inner northians can’t get past it because they see themselves in it and are inexplicably attracted to it!

Now all we need to do is look at all of our public art installations at exactly the right angle, with a wide angle lens, at night, with a star filter, and we’d be set…

I cannot wait to see the size of tree they will be hanging this, the worlds most expensive bauble, on.

Purdy!

Love the name! 😀

What has been seen cannot be unseen.
