ACT Policing is pleading with the community to be conscious of how intoxicated they’re becoming on a night out, with investigations opened into four assaults in the city.

A plea for information has already been issued for an alleged one-punch attack on Sunday (24 September) morning for which an 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged.

Now police have outlined three more incidents that occurred on the same weekend.

The first occurred at about 1:40 am on Friday (22 September) in front of Cube nightclub.

Three men allegedly were involved in the assault of a fourth man.

The second incident occurred at about 11:50 pm on Saturday (23 September) when two men were removed from King O’Malley’s.

After exiting the venue, it’s believed one man assaulted the other.

The third incident occurred at about 2 am on Sunday (24 September) out the front of the 88mph nightclub.

Police said as several people tried to leave the venue, one man was assaulted before he hit his head on the kerb, knocking him out.

Officer in Charge of City Station, Detective Inspector Stephen Ladd, said that seeing this level of violent crime over one weekend was incredibly disappointing.

“Assault of any form is unacceptable, and quite frankly, everyone has a right to feel safe on a night out in our city,” he said.

“I urge Canberrans to be conscious of the level of alcohol or illicit drugs they are consuming, the behaviour they are exhibiting and the danger they are putting themselves and the community in.”

Anyone with any information about the incidents or who may have footage that could assist police is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

So where is the responsible service of alcohol? It sounds as though these men (and they are all men) just keep buying drinks until they are too drunk to control themselves.

Magistrates will sort them out. ‘You’ve been a very naughty boy’ and intensive corrections order, to be served concurrently in the community amongst those you’ve just assaulted.
