The woman accused of a dark web plot to kill her parents has pleaded to two charges just days before she was scheduled to face a trial.
The now-29-year-old, who is legally unable to be named, briefly appeared in the ACT Supreme Court on Tuesday (27 February) and stood while she was read out two counts of incitement to murder.
“Guilty,” she announced to each charge.
She admitted that between 23 September and 7 October 2020, she had committed incitement by urging another person or persons to procure the murder of both her parents by someone else.
However, the details of the crime that she admitted to were not publicly available.
Chief Justice Lucy McCallum vacated the woman’s trial, which had been scheduled to start next week. She listed the matter before the court’s registrar later this week to begin organising the sentencing process.
The woman is currently on bail and was excused from attending court in person on the next occasion.
She originally pleaded not guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial in 2022.
While there are currently no agreed facts for the matter, it has previously been alleged that the woman made a post on a dark web forum saying she was willing to pay $20,000 for a hitman to murder her parents, then sent Bitcoin to the forum’s account.
The woman and her parents legally cannot be named due to non-publication orders.
