That’s right! The A-League is back in town after the success of last year’s match. The Central Coast Mariners are playing the Newcastle Jets in a pre-season game at Canberra Stadium tomorrow (Sat 12th July). These teams played each other in last year’s A-League Grand Final so it should be a very entertaining game. Several former and current Socceroos will be playing (see CT article here). Kick off is at 1pm and tickets are only $12 for adults and $5 for students/kids. All KANGA Cup players and kids under 12 get in for FREE. This is an absolute BARGAIN! Gates open at 12. The forecast for tomorrow is for fine and sunny weather so despite what it’s been like this week it should be a great day for watching football!
By the way, nearly 1000 people have now signed up (in under 2 weeks) to support Canberra’s bid for an A-League team at http://ateam4canberra.wordpress.com. Ivan Slavich, CEO of TransACT is leading the bid, potential investors have already emerged, PriceWaterhouseCoopers has offered their financial services and Canberra legal firm RSK legal are also providing support (see more here). The FFA has extended a deadline so a bid can be submitted this year for the 2009-10 season and former Socceroos Ned Zelic, Fox Sports Football commentator Simon Hill and Capital Football have all endorsed the bid.
