Police have raided an alleged cannabis grow house in the inner north, which they claim resulted in the seizure of over 160 plants.
This alleged commercial quantity of such plants has landed a man before the courts.
ACT Policing said they had received information that a home in Hackett was suspected of being used to grow large amounts of cannabis earlier this year.
As a result of their investigation, police conducted several raids on Tuesday (20 November), including at the house in Hackett.
It is alleged that when the officers entered the property, they discovered it was being used as a grow house, and there was extensive damage caused to the inside of the house, with numerous holes in the ceilings, floors and walls.
“Further, unauthorised electrical work had been conducted that exposed the public to risk,” a police spokesperson alleged.
“Police observed numerous heat lamps, irrigation pipes and pumps, fans and industrial filters in the property, and a total of 164 plants were seized during the search warrant.”
Police also raided the home of a 30-year-old man in Throsby on Tuesday, where he was arrested.
The man has been charged with cultivating a commercial quantity of a controlled plant, possessing equipment used to cultivate controlled plants, theft, unauthorised use of electricity and damaging property.
He was scheduled to face the ACT Magistrates Court on Wednesday (20 November).
“ACT Policing will continue to target the manufacture, sale, and distribution of illicit drugs in our community,” the police spokesperson said.
“If you are engaging in this activity, expect police to be knocking on your door before too long.”
