It's second hand Sunday this weekend

Okay, I don’t get it. We have a supposed “recycling” centre out at Mitchell that won’t take broken items – surely then it is only a “re-using” centre?

IMHO, under No Waste 2010 there should be depots where broken hard waste is accepted, examined to see if it can be fixed, and if not, dismantled and sorted for recycling. But that’s not the way it works! If the thing you want to “recycle” works, Mitchell will take it, however when I took a broken heater there they said they didn’t want it. So the only place it could go is to landfill. That seems wrong to me. A true RECYCLING depot would dismantle the heater and sort the parts for recycling, surely? That happens in other parts of the world, like Japan, why not here?

A proper RECYCLING depot combined with routine hard waste collections would save a lot of useful objects and material going into landfill or dumping, and provide employment. I see dumping all the time and it is appallingly selfish, community-disres[ecting behaviour. By, by golly, the government could make it a lot easier to truly recycle broken hard waste items, and it’s the only way to really get attack that pie-in-the-sky 2010 target… well, that and somehow encouraging people not to BUY SO MUCH SHIT THEY DON’T NEED! I know! Perfect time for an economic downturn! Bwahahahahaha!!!

I’ve sent off an email to the No Waste people asking why they don’t follow up Second-Hand Sunday with a hard waste collection. No response yet, but will post info here if I get one.

Re weird and wonderful items – In ’01 my ex found a man/dog love video at 2nd hand Sunday. Just there, lying in a box on some O’Connor family’s front lawn. I hope no one has to deal with that this time.
