Film funding

The ScreenACT funding isn’t intended to fund complete projects. It’s more like “assistance” or “development” funding. A couple of the recipients from last round were “The Dinner Party”, a feature by Brendan (Magnet Mart Guy) Sloane, which used the money to help with post-production. “Resistance”, the scifi TV series mentioned here a while back, used their cut of the funding to film some “Proof Of Concept” scenes.

It looks like ScreenACT focuses its funding on assisting commercially-oriented projects, so if you’re after money for your next Tropfest extravaganza, this isn’t the droid you’re looking for.

ArtsACT’s funding does provide money for short film projects and the like.

For the guys that recieve the ScreenACT funding, the amount is meaningful, as it’s usually what they’re chasing to either get a project off the ground, or get one completed.

As far as what level would be meaningful in regard to fully-funding a project such as a low-budget feature: More than a local government would be able to shell out 😉
