Unearthed Review? Don’t mind if I do.
Today I have the awkwardly named E A V E S.
Here’s what she has to say about herself:
E A V E S: 18 years old and from Canberra.
I make glitched beats that I would like to listen to on a thursday afternoon with a big cup of tea.
Sadly it is a Wednesday afternoon, but I shall do my best to convince myself that it’s Thursday and I have made myself a cup of tea so let’s do this.
I kinda burned my tongue a bit.
Okay, this works. The two tracks available are very passive. They’re pretty songs that don’t demand your attention, despite being made out of uncomfortable sounds. These songs are designed to sit in the background while you relax and focus on something else. Like this cup of tea. Now that it’s cooled down it’s quite nice. Why don’t I drink tea more often?
I’m distracted. Listen to Fluster first, it’s much more accessible than Winter Haze. The glitchy opening of Winter Haze might put some off, it takes a bit so sink in to the track so you can hear to music instead of the broken sounds. I’m glad I stuck with it, so give it a go before switching it off.
I have a feeling I would be enjoying this much less if I hadn’t made a cup of tea, and I wonder if other bands shouldn’t start making suggestions in their bios as to what beverages go best with their music. If you do, I will listen.
Three stars.
