Mark Parton – hey 2ca, we need that afternoon bloke in the mornings!

I think it’s important for a radio DJ to be able to relate to his audience and I’ve always admired Mark Parton’s ability to communicate with your typical ‘Joe the plumber’ by bringing some of his personal life eg family, mortgages etc. to the airwaves. It helps you connect with th DJ, and I’ve not found many other local DJs in my age group who have been able to that. I think he would be very good on the early morning slot on AM radio.

Someone has to have a wife and kids (and talk about them constantly at work) to have a life?

I know many married parents who’d beg to differ.

Nah, 666 has way too much sport. It’s worse over summer but it’s basically an overdose all year – so b-o-o-o-or-ing! If they shunted the sport to another frequency, it would make everyone happy, sports haters and lovers alike.

But Scotty and Nige, whilst also Tossers, aren’t marketing themselves as ‘family friendly’. I think Mark’s insistence that he’s all about ‘the family’ is a subtle repositioning on his part so he can stand for Family First next time he gets the election itch.

Thank god Scotty and Nige DON’T crap on about their families. Do people really want to hear about other peoples’ kids?

It would be good to see another commercial station enter the market and make things really competitive, the downside of that is that whoever is at the bottom of the pack could go right out of business because it would probably be unsustainable for them to make any revenue with advertising dollars being spent at the more popular stations. It would be good to see 104 and 106 bumped off their perch for something fresh, although I know how much Canberrans seem to fear change…

It could maybe make some of the stations lift their game though, particularly the commercial ones who seem to be all about looking after their advertisers as opposed to their listeners.

Heard him for the first time the other day, gibbering on from some store opening in Yass. A complete tool!

Triple J is appalling. Listening to it is like being stuck in the common room with a load of smug sixth formers who think they know more about stuff than you do.

There is only one station worth listening to and that is Triple J, especially in the mornings. Other than that, 666 is good to listen to when grandstand is on…BUT THAT IS IT!

It’s definitely true mate, I’ve heard from many an extremely reliable source I can tell you.

Still can’t believe Cam Sullings replaced him, at least Parton had some semblance of intelligence, this bloke is just an insincere suck!

And yeah, this reeks of viral stuff. From experience people seldom write in to say something good, but when it comes time to complain about something then they mysteriously find their motivation.

Still, it does happen sometimes but I remain completely skeptical.

I like 2CA’s morning crowd – pacy and funny. I heard Mark doing a ‘man about town’ gig with them over the weekend. He was fine except for the fact that he called everyone in Tuggeranong a bogan: ‘well I’m down here with the bogans at Tuggeranong Good Guys’ does not go down too well. [And why is it always ‘down’ in Tuggeranong? It’s not that far, surely, and it’s very annoying]
