A good luthier in Canberra?

By 30january1649 - 9 February 2011 5

Can anyone recommend a good luthier in or near Canberra – one who does good work on acoustic guitars?

There apparently used to be a guy in Tuggeranong, but I know no more than that.

[ED – According to Wikipedia “A luthier (pronounced /?lu?ti?r/ LOO-ti-?r[1]) is someone who makes or repairs stringed instruments.”]

What’s Your opinion?

I recommend a fellow called Dominic in Belconnen. He makes acustic guitars and is a woodworking genius. He can be contacted on 0401 809 215

The gentleman in Tuggeranong you are thinking of is Barron Clarke! Does a good job, although it can be a little bit of a strange experience visiting his workshop and home. He has reapired a resonator and banjo-lin for me, and I can attest to the quality of his work:

Apart from that, I seem to recall another guy making and repairing dobros/acoustics, although I can’t remember his name…
