A Portrait of Canberra and of Canberrans 1979-2012

Shortly after moving from Canberra to the South Coast in 1998, Heide and I published our fourth book of photographs of Canberra “Canberra a personal perspective “. In all, the four books had sold 25,000 copies, and we thought “enough was enough”. But last year we were persuaded to publish another; a special book covering a third of Canberra’s history as Australia’s National Capital. It would portray not only the city, but also Canberrans, and it had to be out in time for the Centennial Celebrations. We quickly realized that we would need financial support to produce a book of suitable quality. Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Canberra Airport, we believe that “A Portrait of Canberra and of Canberrans 1979-2012” will satisfy that criteria.

The book is now with the printers and we are on schedule for Robyn Archer, the Creative Director of the Canberra Centenary Celebration to launch it on September 20 at the Canberra Museums and Galleries (CMAG), on London Circuit. We have a blog on our Canberra website following the progress of the new book. If you would like to see a preview of the contents go to; http://www.canberraphotographs.com/blog

I’m an admirer of Heide’s photographic work and am looking forward to this latest addition to her work.
Thanks for posting.

Brian, as a long time fan of yours and Heide’s work, I can’t wait to go and grab a copy. I would love to find a copy of one of Heide’s books from the 1970s, which showed Garema Place and various other bits of Civic prior to the area being converted to a pedestrian mall. It was this book that got me interested in Heide’s work on Canberra.
