Come on a journey to an age of romance and beauty. You will be entertained by the artistry and virtuosity of extraordinary singers, dancers and musicians as they present your favourite classical and romantic moments with sets and lighting re-creating the atmosphere of a Parisian salon in the age of romance!

This will be the only opportunity for Australian audiences to hear the exquisite American pianist Elizabeth Schumann. Acknowledged by connoisseurs in Europe and America as one of the greatest interpreters of romantic music of our age, Elizabeth is coming to Australia especially to play the best-loved tunes of Chopin in “A True Romance”. The sublime poetry of this music, interpreted by this glorious performer, will speak directly to your heart.

Some of Australia’s best voices will travel to Canberra for this feast of Opera. You will be thrilled by stirring choruses, soaring arias and passionate scenes of jealousy, love and betrayal, including the compelling “Mad Scene” from Lucia di Lammermoor and Pamina’s poignant aria and suicide scene from “The Magic Flute”. I have made a fabulous discovery in Brisbane: opera singing brothers Raphael and Charles Hudson. They will present the all-time favourite “Pearlfishers” duet.

Opera favourites: Lakme Flower Duet; La Boheme – Musetta’s Waltz Song; Intermezzo from Cavaliera Rusticana; The Barcarolle from Tales of Hoffman; Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves Nabucco; Brindisi La Traviata; Meditation Thais.

You will enjoy some of the emerging stars of Australian ballet in a beautiful Viennese ballroom scene and a fiery Spanish dance. This is a rare opportunity to enjoy such fine ballet with live music in Canberra.

You will be astonished by the sensational violin virtuoso Alison Laurens playing sizzling gypsy tunes; you will be dazzled by the flamboyant trumpeter Zach Raffan; and you will be captivated by the magic flute of Samantha Joseph.

All these romantic treats will combine in a single lovely enetrtainment at the Street Theatre. The intimacy of this theatre guarantees you excellent views and the detailed acoustic allows you hear this great music as it really sounds. The season is limited to just four nights, so book now and be part of this True Romance!
