The 5th annual ACTEW Grand Gala concert is coming to Llewellyn hall on Saturday the 6th of July.

The Canberra Symphony Orchestra’s (CSO) Annual ACTEW Grand Gala concert has become the hottest tickets in town!

After five consecutive years of sell-out performances, 2013 will be no exception as the CSO presents Bernstein On Broadway.

A celebrated and sometimes controversial figure, Leonard Bernstein was one of the greatest 20 composers and conductors. He wrote in many styles encompassing symphonic and orchestral music, ballet, film, theatre, choral works, opera, chamber music and works for the piano. Many of his works are regularly performed around the world including the tremendously popular music of West Side Story.

The ACTEW Grand Gala will once again be led by Chief Conductor & Artistic Director Nicholas Milton and feature the sublime voice of one of Australia’s most versatile sopranos; Lorina Gore. Lorina will be performing West Side Story favourites such as Tonight, I feel Pretty, and Somewhere .

A former Canberran, Lorina’s professional career has gone from strength to strength since her time studying at the Australian National University. In 2001 she was awarded first place at the Australian National Aria Competition held at Llewellyn Hall. She is a principal artist with Opera Australia and has appeared as soprano soloist with the Sydney Philharmonia, Royal Melbourne Philharmonic, Collegium Musicum Choir (UNSW), Melbourne Bach Choir and the Queensland, Tasmanian and Darwin Symphony Orchestras.

If it sells out every year, why does it need sponsorship from a part-government owned entity?

One or all of the following:

A: Free seats for select employees of Actew and their special mates
B: Best seats in the house, best parking and champers and cavier with the stars
C: Photos in the social pages of the Canberra Times and City News

How much does my water and electricity bill contribute to this?
Are we not already paying enough without branding a concert?
