AFL on TV in Canberra – a sign of things to come this year?

By djk - 26 March 2009 30

It’s the start of the footy season and I am excited, so I just checked out yourguide.com.au to see what time the first game of the season would be on tonight.  Keep in mind it is a sell-out at the MCG (90k plus people).

Result?  11.15pm on Ten.

Hmmm, well it is a Thursday, maybe they thought no-one would watch it or something.  How about the big grand final rematch tomorrow night then?

Wow 9.30pm, after not only Better Homes and Gardens at 7.30pm, but also after a repeat of Heartbeat at 8.30pm!?!

In the words of Channel Ten, Seriously??

What’s Your opinion?

i would say that the issue is related to the delayed transmission of One HD (which is broadcasting the game) – http://the-riotact.com/?p=11411 .

but still, i was also quite sad when i went (in excitement) went to check out what time the game would be broadcast… very disappointing.

sorry – just saw the OND HD thread….SC Ten are a bunch of no hopers.

AFL coverage on free to air is an absolute shocker in the ACT. Thank god my parents have Foxtel.

I should say it’s the future of live tv sports. The internet is the future of television.

Yeah, was considering going to the Ainslie to watch the game live.

Anyone know if/when Capital will be broadcasting the ONE sport channel here?

For years we have been denied decent footy coverage – but more than 600 bucks a year for Foxtel is a bit hard to justify to the CFO in our household….

Pay TV is the future of television. May as well jump on board now. And as a bonus you won’t get any ads during the game.

It doesn’t really surprise me anymore. Not happy but what are you gonna do? It would be good if we got the new digital channel and they showed it there.

I hope the Farnarkling World Cup coverage doesn’t suffer a similar fate, chewy14.

And they are not showing the World Tiddliewinks Championship (WTC) at all.

Disgraceful Channel Ten.

You wouldn’t want to have it live otherwise those Jetsetting Canberra fans wouldn’t bother coming to the matches right!

I was surprised that last year they had the SANFL on TV here (South Australian National Football League).

Live on Fox 518.

Just pay the money and stop complaining…

Evening, even.

There’s probably a number of folks happy that this boring ‘sport’ isn’t televised until late in the even.

What’s AFL?

Oh, I remember. He was that orange alien who like to eat cats.
