Anyone know more about David Matthews – the (apparently) new ALP Candidate?

By Peter Holland 27 June 2008 31

just wondering, saw his ad last night on the TV, but don’t know him from a bar of soap – does anyone have any info about him?

He looks to be the same David Matthews that runs Crystal Approach. Can anyone enlighten me?

What’s Your opinion?

Can anybody tell me where I can buy, or have printed a bumper-sticker that say’s:

“I am ambivalent towards a dragway, I fish, cycle, drive cars, ride motorbikes, like fireworks, have pets, have kids in school, am heterosexual, think the cops, firies and ambo’s are doing a fine job, hate beggers in Civic, hate drugs, hate light sentences for criminals, like drinking both beer and wine and I VOTE”?

I’d liek one with;

“I didn’t vote for a dragway, I have an adequately sized penis.”

David Mathews – nice guy???Does he demonstrate a social conscience? Does he care about the marginalised? What is his motivation for being a politician? social justice? To make Canberra a better place? Ha! My good guess is that his motivation is not at all about improving the lives of others or making a difference: to who? People get the government they deserve: Action not words!

peter@home – I’m sick of this argument about school closing, they have never been fixed items. If they were operating without many students and the money could be better used elsewhere, then why not. Lets face it, Canberra is not a big city, if your kids have to walk an extra 500 meters to school then big deal, think of it as exercise for them. It used to take me an hour and a half to get to school when I was a kid. Also, how about you take some time out of your day to walk them there safely, rather then whine about busy roads etc… I’ve taken a significant pay cut to enable me to do this with my kids and you’d be surprised how happy it may make you to spend this extra time with the littlies.

Your also not the only one to suffer through the fires, but think about this… Stanhope was kind enough to help those that weren’t insured and he also waived building laws (e.g. 12 months to build)to help people save enough to rebuild. Also, I’m not against a dragway per se, but if it would be such a big money spinner for the ACT as the pro lobby say, why isn’t this being publicaly funded by companies (e.g. Snow et al).

the point I was raising about the fires was that stanhope could have stepped in and paid the GST back to the people who had to re-build after they received their insurance payouts. There are many people that I know who now have a mortgage again. (they had paid out their mortgage)

Not sure why this popped into my head, as a possible election promise, considering that there is a jeans for genes days, you could consider “flannel for Charnwood and Tuggeranong Day”.

Just think with the funds raised you could promise to lower the cost of winny blues, Woodstock bourbon and burnout rims… AND GET VOTES AT THE SAME TIME! Just please don’t record any songs.

well, that’s me out, don’t smoke winny blues, drink bourbon or do burnouts, and my wife burned my flannie when I moved to tuggeranong from charnwood.

Oh, and can you promise no crappy election songs (with or without whistling and dodgy lyrics)?!

So Dave, apart from not being able to get a ‘sonic’ haircut or the number of Jon’s barber, and being a newbie Rioter, who are you, what do you stand for and what are YOUR issues for the ACT (as opposed to those of the ALP generally)? I’m all ears…

G’day RiotACTers,

So I’m a millionaire right wing hippy with Jon Stanhope’s haircut running an IT business who has done nothing in the community?

Wow. That’s an awesome description…..of someone else.

Yes, I do own an IT services business. No, I’m not a millionaire nor am I a member of any faction in the Labor Party. I am active in the community, but I’m not a hippy (well, let’s face it; I don’t have the hair for it!) Come to mention it, no one, no matter how many times I ask, will give me the phone number of the Chief Minister’s hairdresser.

Minorities are only minorities if they are not white, anglo saxon and male.

Which I guess would be your stereotypical drag racing fan.
